Incensed

How twisted the mind of one Hillary
Whose brain is a seething bacillary
For the breeding of bugs,
Which resist all known drugs,
To make toxic rhetorical artillery.

King Kong, that colossal gorilla,
Once battled the mighty pol Hilla,.
The gorilla fought well,
But fell prey to the smell
From the pol's highly partisan axilla.

One may hope Hil 's on the back burner,
Cast aside, nearly died, 'cause we spurned 'er .
But a smouldering fire,
The ilk of a pyre,
She'll burn for anyone who'll churn 'er.

Thanks, Senator Kennedy

The nation's top military leaders clashed with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy yesterday, challenging his assertion that the Iraq war has descended into a Vietnam-like "quagmire."

Having argued that Iraq is a distraction from the war against terrorism,
Kennedy reiterated his view that Iraq is a needless quagmire with no end in sight.

Rove Apologizes

I'm sorry if I offended the Democrats by my recent reference to how some liberals spoke and behaved regarding the attacks of September 11th.

I regret that MoveOn.org, now at the core of the Democrat Party, launched a petition less than 48 hours after the collapse of the Twin Towers that stated (emphases added):

"We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of the United States
of America and of countries around the world, appeal to the President of The
United States, George W. Bush; to the NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson; to
the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi; and to all leaders
internationally to use moderation and restraint in responding to the recent
terrorist attacks against the United States. We implore the powers that be to
use, wherever possible, international judicial institutions and international
human rights law
to bring to justice those responsible for the attacks, rather
than the instruments of war
, violence or destruction."

I regret the admonitions of Rep. Neil Abercrombie on October 1, 2001 in Roll Call: "I truly believe if we had a Department of Peace, we could have seen [9/11] coming."

I am deeply sorry that Al Sharpton, in the New York Times on December 1, 2002, made this characterization of the 9-11 attacks: "America is beginning to reap what it has sown."

I wish I could retract the statement that Rep. Marcy Kaptur’s made on March 1, 2003 in the Toledo Blade: "One could say that Osama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped cast off the British crown."

Let me also apologize for Senator Joe Biden who, on October 22, 2001 said, “The Bombing Campaign, [Biden] Said, Reinforced Existing Stereotypes Of The United States As A ‘High-Tech Bully …’” (Miles A. Pomper, "Building Anti-Terrorism Coalition Vaults Ahead Of Other Priorities," Congressional Quarterly Weekly, 10/26/01, no link)

And for Representative Dennis Kucinich on September 30, 2001: "Sitting In His Capitol Hill Office Last Week, Near A Window Where He Could See The Smoke Rising From The Pentagon On Sept. 11, Kucinich Insisted He Is More Optimistic Than Ever That People Worldwide Are Ready To Embrace The Cause Of Nonviolence.” ... “Afghanistan May Be An Incubator Of Terrorism But It Doesn’t Follow That We Bomb Afghanistan …” (Elizabeth Auster, “Offer The Hand Of Peace,” [Cleveland, OH] Plain Dealer, 9/30/01)

And, alas, for poor John Kerry, for saying on April 19, 2004: "I will use our military when necessary, but it is not primarily a military operation. It's an intelligence-gathering, law-enforcement, public-diplomacy effort." And, "[W]e're putting far more money into the war on the battlefield than we are into the war of ideas. We need to get it straight." (Washington Times, 4/19/04). And, “[W]hat We’ve Learned Is That The War On Terror Is Much More Of An Intelligence Operation And A Law Enforcement Operation.” (NPR’s “All Things Considered,” 3/19/03)

Last but not least, I apologize for Howard Dean. During the primary campaign he said he thought it was possible that George Bush conspired with the Saudis to cover up their involvement in the 9/11 attacks. And yes, I should apologize for Ted Kennedy too. Ted Kennedy keeps talking about how Bush cooked up the entire war on terror at his Crawford ranch, so I must extend my apology for him also. Oh, I almost forgot. I apologize for Dick Durbin, the second ranking Democrat in the Senate, for comparing Camp X-Ray to Dachau, the gulags, and the Cambodian killing fields?

Let the record be clear about this. I regret the Democrats being on the wrong side of history, and I apologize for their outrage at being proven so profoundly wrong since the attacks of 9-11. I am deeply sorry that so many of them blame America for terrorism and seem more concerned about the level of Christina Aguilera music in Gitmo than they are about defeating our attackers.

With friends like these, who needs enemies.

Durbin's World

What... me worry?

Well, maybe not, Dick. But the other 90% of America wonders what's going through your head.

"What's unusual about Durbin's lie is that it slanders his own country. Normally that kind of slander is uttered only by revolutionaries seeking the violent overthrow of the government. Yet Durbin purports to be part of a loyal opposition.

What possessed Durbin to do it? How, after harping constantly on the importance of our image to winning the war on terrorism, could he cast the U.S. in such a false light?"

Memo Suggests Oil-For-Food Link to Annan
By NICK WADHAMS, Associated Press Writer
Courtesy of Yaho News, Tue Jun 14, 9:26 PM ET

UNITED NATIONS - The committee probing the U.N. oil-for-food program announced Tuesday it will again investigate Secretary-General Kofi Annan after two e-mails suggested he may have known more than he claimed about a multimillion-dollar U.N. contract awarded to the company that employed his son...

If accurate, the new details would cast doubt on a major finding the U.N.-backed Independent Inquiry Committee made in March — that there wasn't enough evidence to show that Annan knew about efforts by Cotecna, which employed his son Kojo, to win the Iraq oil-for-food contract. The Associated Press obtained the e-mails Tuesday.

Through his spokesman, Annan said he didn't remember the late 1998 meeting. He repeatedly has insisted that he didn't know Cotecna was pursuing a contract with the oil-for-food program...

A key issue has been whether Annan was guilty of a conflict of interest because the United Nations awarded the $10 million-a-year contract to Cotecna while Kojo Annan was a consultant for the company. Posted by Hello

Changing Media Players

Poll asks Americans
"Who is a journalist?"

Last Updated Tue, 14 Jun 2005 18:07:44 EDT
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

A new U.S. poll reveals that 40 per cent of Americans think Fox News Channel personality Bill O'Reilly is a journalist, compared to 30 per cent who think Bob Woodward is a journalist....

Using a list of 10 names, the poll asked respondents to say if they think the person in question is a journalist... Woodward was on par with Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk-radio host who was rated by 27 per cent of people to be a journalist...

Limbaugh told the Associated Press he is "not really surprised" with the findings."...[T]his is just more evidence that the old media's monopoly-like dominance is finished," he said.

The study was conducted by the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center from March 7 to May 2.

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, the centre's director, said ... the results provide "disturbing evidence that the public defines the word very differently from the way that most journalists do."

Gourmet Fare at Gitmo 'Gulag'

After Rep. Duncan Hunter's eye-opening description of how terrorist suspects are living high on the hog at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, prisoners from around the world will no doubt be clamoring for a 'gulag' cell of their own.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, the House Armed Services Committee chairman began by detailing tonight's dinner menu at Gitmo - which all detainees, including one suspected of being involved in the 9/11 plot, will enjoy.

"For Sunday they're going to be having Orange Glazed Chicken, Fresh Fruit Roupee, Steamed Peas and Mushrooms, Rice Pilaf - we treat them very well," he told Fox.

Last night, Hunter said, the U.S. "torture victims" enjoyed the same kind of gourmet fare, including an entree of "Lemon-baked Fish."

On the other hand, feeding the detainees MREs, the standard fare given to our troops on the front lines, is strictly verboten - considered an "abuse" under restrictions imposed by Congress, Hunter said.

The top House Republican also noted that the religious practices of the terrorist suspects held at the U.S. "gulag" are scrupulously accommodated, explaining:

"We give them honey and dates when they break fast at Ramadan. We give them prayer beads and prayer oil - all paid for [by the U.S. taxpayer.]

"In fact," he said, "if you did that for American GIs - if you had a call to prayer five times a day - the ACLU would sue on the basis that we violated the separation between church and state."

Hil Uses Her Nuclear Option

So much for the "moderate" Hillary. Has she reverted to her far left self, or is she just working both sides of the street? From yesterday's NY Times:

"There has never been an administration, I don't believe in our
history, more intent upon consolidating and abusing power to further their own agenda," Mrs. Clinton told the gathering.

"I know it's frustrating for many of you, it's frustrating for me. Why can't the Democrats do more to stop them?" she continued to growing applause. "I can tell you this: It's very hard to stop people who have no shame about what they're doing. It is very hard to tell people that they are making decisions that will undermine our checks and balances and constitutional system of government who don't care. It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth." NY Times

Pants Blazing Over Iraq

Is acting on bad intelligence different from a lie, or has Iraq made liars of all these people:
  • "If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
    -- President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
  • "He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
-- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
  • "Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
    -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
  • "Hussein has .. chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
-- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999
  • "We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
    -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
  • "There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by: -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001
  • "We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them."
    -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
  • "We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
    -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
  • "Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
    -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
  • "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
    -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
  • "The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
    -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
  • "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
    -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002
  • "There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
    -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
  • "He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do"
    -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002
  • "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
    -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
  • "We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
    -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
  • "Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
    -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003
  • "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
--Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

John Kerry as Chauncey Gardiner

"Included in Kerry's military files were his transcripts from Yale, which were part of his application for officer training. Kerry, it turns out, had a 76 average for his years at Yale--the equivalent of a C and one point below George W. Bush's 77 average. Kerry had a difficult freshman year, scoring four D's, though he did manage a C in French.
"So Kerry was almost as distinguished a scholar as the schoolmate who went on to become president of the United States. That doesn't seem so bad--but for candidate Kerry, it would have been devastating. After all, much of Kerry's appeal, such as it was, rested on intellectual snobbery. His supporters described him, in the words of a March 2004 New York Times report, as "an intellectual who grasps the subtleties of issues, inhabits their nuances and revels in the deliberative process." In this view, Kerry's nose for nuance contrasted favorably with Bush's simplisme.
"But what if Kerry simply lacked the ability to express himself clearly? Consider his answer when asked in a September 2003 debate to reconcile his vote for Iraq's liberation with his subsequent opposition: "The vote is the vote. I voted to authorize. It was the right vote, and the reason I mentioned the threat is that we gave the--we had to give life to the threat. If there wasn't a legitimate threat, Saddam Hussein was not going to allow inspectors in. Now, let me make two points if I may. . . ."
"He went on in this vein for 248 words (quoted in full here), and only someone with a superior intellect and too much time on his hands could possibly have made sense of his answer. "People will often be misled into thinking someone is brighter if he says something complicated they can't understand," IQ expert Linda Gottfredson told the Times' John Tierney last year. The revelation that Kerry was no better a student than Bush suggests that this is just what happened." -- James Taranto, Best of the Web Today, June 7, 2005, WSJ.com, Wall Street Journal Posted by Hello

One American Life

"The New York Times had already primed the pump, running more than 50front-page stories on the abuses at Abu Ghraib. Then came reports from theInternational Red Cross that more abuse was happening at Guantanamo. TheAmerican Civil Liberties Union was already challenging detentions there andso a strategy was sealed: the Bush administration was full of torturers andhuman rights violators. It was ruining America's reputation throughout theworld. Bush was a villain....
"Now the torture theme has new momentum. A liberal federal judge in New YorkCity has ruled the Defense Department must release more photos and videos of AbuGhraib to the ACLU. Of course, that will incite even more hatred against the USAand put our soldiers in more danger but, hey, politics comes before protectingthe troops. The anti-Bush people want those pictures almost as badly as AlJazeera wants them. Another nail in the President's coffin is more importantthan bodies in real coffins. " -- BillOReilly.com

Kerry: I have re-read the New Testament

"The Massachusetts senator, at a National Head Start Association conference
to tout his plan to provide health care for uninsured children, hammered on
familiar themes of values and unity while repeatedly criticizing the Bush
administration and Republican leaders in Congress.
'I went back and reread
the whole New Testament the other day. Nowhere in the three-year ministry of
Jesus Christ did I find a suggestion at all, ever, anywhere, in any way
whatsover, that you ought to take the money from the poor, the opportunities
from the poor and give them to the rich people,' Kerry said."
